Musical splendour

Klosters Music: “The place to be”

The motto “Begegnungen. People and Places” also characterises the essence of the festival, because Klosters Music creates encounters – between nature and culture, between exceptional artists and audiences of music enthusiasts.

This year major romantic works such as Antonín Dvořák‘s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” at the opening concert with The Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 2 in C major, which will be performed by the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Works by Richard Wagner, Peter Tchaikovsky and Jean Sibelius complement the Romantic focus. The baroque programme “Con Passione!”, a family concert and the closing concert “And the Oscar goes to…” with film music offer further musical facets.

Thomas Hampson, the charismatic American baritone can be heard from a completely different angle as he performs well-known songs and jazz ballads from the “Great American Songbook”, accompanied by the Janoska Ensemble. Pianist Jan Lisiecki and violinist Alina Ibragimova will be making their debut in Klosters as young classical stars. As in previous years, Sir András Schiff will set new standards with his piano artistry. This time with two different concerts in St. Jacob’s Church: a solo recital and, together with Julian Prégardien, he will perform Franz Schubert’s song cycle “Die schöne Müllerin” in Klosters.
