St. John Fortress

St John Castle is a historic fortress located in the coastal town of Kotor, Montenegro. This castle was built by the Republic of Venice in the 16th century as a defensive stronghold against Ottoman attacks. Today, it stands as an impressive example of Venetian military architecture and has become a popular tourist attraction.

The castle is situated on top of a hill overlooking the bay of Kotor and its surrounding mountains. Visitors can climb up to the castle at 280 metres above sea level and going tup 1,350 steps that wind through narrow alleys and past old houses in the town below. Once at the summit, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking views stretching out over miles of coastline and sea.

The interior of St John Castle features well-preserved walls, towers, and ramparts that offer insights into how soldiers lived and worked during times of war.
