Old Town of Bern - UNESCO

Bern, the capital city of Switzerland, is a city full of culture and heritage. Located in the center of the country in the Swiss Alps and situated on the Aare River, Bern has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. The city was founded in 1191 by Duke Berchtold V von Zähringen and is one of Europe’s oldest cities and offers stunning views.

The old town of Bern encompasses many beautiful sights including The Zytglogge clock tower which stands at 12 meters high and dates back to 1530. Other attractions include: The Swiss Federal Parliament Building which houses Switzerland’s government; Bear Park where visitors can see real brown bears living in their natural environment; Berner Munster (Cathedral), an impressive gothic church dating back to 1421; and Einsteinhaus – Albert Einstein’s former home – now a museum dedicated to his life story or explore The Fine Arts Museum. It’s no wonder why so many travelers are drawn to this place!

This alpine wonderland offers many activities including skiing, snowboarding, ice skating, hiking, and more.
