In 1992, Efteling received the IAAPA Applause Award as Best Amusement Park in the World.

Originally, the park was designed for children with a fairytale theme. In over seventy years of operation, the park has evolved from a nature park with a playground and enchanted forest to a full-scale theme park along the lines of Disneyland. It is three times larger than the original Disney park and was opened three years earlier.
