National Museum Ancient Art

The National Museum of Ancient Art in Lisbon is a place full of history and inspiring stories. Located in the heart of the city, this museum has been around since 1884 and houses some of the most impressive collection of ancient artefacts from Europe, Africa and beyond. The museum was founded by an art collector named Antonio Augusto de Moncada who had a passion for collecting rare works of art.

    With the Lisboa card, the entrance is free. They show diverse art works, objects, paintings which represent the history of Portugal. I enjoyed a lot each floor.

    The museum is free every day right now because they are totally renovating the building and they've removed much of their collection. I only had an hour so I did not get to the first floor, but I enjoyed my short stay there. You'll see in my photos and videos what I was able to see. I'd say it's well worth it since it's free!

    We came to the Nacional de Arte with high expectations, as we thought there would be as many paintings as the National Gallery in London. Despite the museum houses a collection of European & Portuguese art, jewelleries, furnitures, ceramics...etc, dating from the 14th to 19th centuries, I felt that there weren't many paintings from the well known...
