Embark on an unforgettable journey into the heart of these ancient limestone caves, where every step unveils a world filled with awe-inspiring wonders and captivating beauty. Immerse yourself in a realm untouched by time as you wander through narrow passages, stalactites dripping like intricate chandeliers above you, and shimmering underground lakes that mirror the ethereal glow of sunlight filtering through crevices.

The St. Beatus Caves have an intriguing history that dates back thousands of years. They were named after a local Celtic saint, St. Beatus, who is believed to have lived and meditated in the cave during the 6th century.

The St. Beatus Caves consist of a vast underground network of chambers and passages carved out by the constant flow of water from the nearby Niederhorn mountains. The caves stretch for approximately one kilometer and visitors can explore around two-thirds of this impressive labyrinth.

Inside the caves, visitors can observe stunning stalactite formations hanging from the ceiling as well as stalagmites rising from the ground. The interplay between light and shadow creates a surreal atmosphere that mesmerizes every traveler who enters.

Besides their natural beauty, the St. Beatus Caves also hold significant historical importance. Archaeological discoveries suggest that these caves were inhabited during prehistoric times, serving as shelter for Stone Age communities around 15,000 years ago.

To enhance the visitor experience, the St. Beatus Caves offer guided tours conducted by knowledgeable experts who delve into both the geology and history of this remarkable underground wonder. Along with explaining how these formations took shape over centuries, guides share captivating stories about how early settlers utilized the cave system.

In addition to its geological and historical charms, the surrounding area offers breathtaking views of Lake Thun and the majestic Swiss Alps. Visitors can take leisurely walks along well-marked hiking trails or enjoy panoramic vistas from vantage points strategically placed on their route.

The St. Beatus Caves provide a unique opportunity for nature enthusiasts, history buffs, and adventure seekers alike to immerse themselves in an extraordinary underground world teeming with wonders waiting to be discovered.

Very nice cave, about 2 km long. Great place for visit. My tips: 1) Because there is cold inside, better to bring a jacket, no matter how hot it is outside. 2) The best way to arrive at 10:00 by car or by bus, because there are very few parking spots available and less people will be inside. 3) Leave your bag and huge things in the car, because...

Amazing experience. Nice and cool inside the cave. It goes very deep into the mountain. If you are tall, you’ll need to stoop a little through many sections. Food is pretty pricey, but that’s everywhere in Switzerland really. A 500ml bottle of still water was 5 CHF.

You have to visit this cave. It has a rich history and its about 30mins of walking, and spans 926m deep into the cave. Along the way you see so many different formations of rocks and there is even an Grand-Tour landmark photo booth towards the end.
