Kokorin Castle

Fancy a trip to a historic castle nestled in the rolling hills of the Czech Republic and surrounded by nature? Kokořín Castle may be the ideal place for you to spend some time in.

Kokořín Castle is a castle located approximately 10 km northeast of Mělník. It was built in the first half of the 14th century by order of Hynek Berka of Dubé. It was heavily damaged during the Hussite Wars and stood in ruins until the reconstruction campaign of 1911–1918. Yet, today it is one of the most famous and beautiful castles standing in Europe.

The first recorded mention of Kokořín dates from 1320. In the same year Sir Jindřich of Osměchov received Kokořín manor from the nobleman Hynek Berka of Dubá.

The castle over time had many heirs and patrons, including writers and painters who flocked to the castle while it was still in ruins. Only recently in 2006 was the castle returned to the hands of the Špačk family, who intend to continue the family tradition and continue to preserve this popular monument for the public.

Among the stunning nature and architecture, many visitors find the spot ideal for picnics.

Nice little castle, admission is 120 Kc. You can get a reading guide in each language. From the parking area (100 Kc per day) you can walk up to the castle in 10-15 min.

The castle is beautiful and wasn't too crowded when we went. But yeah even though it's so far away from Prague. Still, it's worth it to go, and if u love nature u gonna like it this place.

Beautiful castle, the entrance fee is 90 for a student and 120 for an adult. You can also join a guided tour but it’s only in Czech. We were able to enjoy it on our own with a paper guide provided ☺️

A very cool castle to visit. You can see most of the castle for free, but have to pay to go inside the building and up the tower. There is a steep flight of stairs to climb from the parking lot. Amazing views from up the walls and they provide guides to read in English.

A great place for a walk with children. The castle has a three-story palace not overloaded with paintings, gold and furniture. But there are paths along the fortress wall, spiral staircases and a large tower with a beautiful view of the neighboring hills. There is also a trekking trail from the castle to a point on the highway, from which a...
