Jasna Gora Monastery

Jasna Gora Monastery is a major pilgrimage shrine located in Czestochowa. The monastery is situated on the site of an old castle and has been home to monks since 1382. It was here that the Virgin Mary was said to have miraculously saved the monastery from Swedish invaders in 1655.

Today, Jasna Gora Monastery is one of the most popular places to visit in Poland. People come from around the world to explore this historic landmark and experience its peaceful atmosphere. The main attraction is a spectacular painting of the Black Madonna which dates back to around 1400 AD. For centuries this painting has been linked with miracles, healing and protection for those who pray before it. Pilgrims also visit the chapel where the famous battle against Sweden took place as well as many other chapels and monuments scattered throughout this historic place.

The monastery houses both a church and museum filled with art collections, artifacts, paintings and sculptures that tell stories about Polish culture and faith.

Visiting Jasna Gora will give you an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of art while immersing yourself into the serenity of faith. You’ll be inspired by both history and spirituality which make this place so special!

Today I made a pilgrimage to the Jasna Góra Monastery in Częstochowa, drawn there to pray before the image of the Black Madonna. From the moment I arrived, there was a sense of reverence and history that seemed to slow everything down. I was fortunate to attend a Christmas service in the very chapel where the Black Madonna hangs—a profoundly...

In my opinion, this is one of the top 3 places to see in the city. Photography is prohibited in the museum area. Entrance is free. It's a very large area and I definitely recommend spending at least an hour there.

A heathen here. A pretty magnificent church. Our tour uses a local tour guide who takes us through the church while the Mass is in progress. He's also very thorough with the small museum. The church is dedicated to Black Madonna (the Virgin Mary), mother of Jesus. Reportedly, she possessed extraordinary power.
