The Acropolis of Lindos

Perched atop a towering hill on the Greek island of Rhodes, the Acropolis of Lindos stands as a testament to ancient grandeur. This historical site is a treasure trove of archaeological wonders, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich history of the region.

One of the most striking features of the Acropolis is the impressive Propylaea, an ornate gateway that serves as the entrance to the site. Constructed in the 4th century BC, this grand entrance stands as a reminder of the architectural prowess of its time. Its imposing columns and intricate carvings have weathered centuries, retaining their awe-inspiring splendor.

Another noteworthy attraction within the Acropolis is the Church of St. John, a medieval structure that provides insight into more recent historical periods. Built by the Knights of Saint John in the 14th century, this church showcases remarkable craftsmanship and offers panoramic views of Lindos and its surrounding landscape.

Visitors to the Acropolis can immerse themselves in its storied past while marveling at its breathtaking vistas. The site’s strategic location grants panoramic views over Lindos Bay and beyond, providing a picturesque backdrop for exploration and reflection.

As one wanders through this ancient citadel, remnants of temples, altars, and other ancient structures transport them back in time. The sense of reverence and mystery that permeates these ruins captivates history enthusiasts and casual tourists alike.

A nice historical site to visit, with amazing views and scenery over the Lindos village and Mediterranean sea. Good time spent and stunning photos for long lasting memories. It is really worth the climb and the entrance fee. Visited in October, just before closing time so there was no queuing at entrance. In busy times it can get busy, also during...

We visited in low season (end of October) and the wait was under 10 mins. This is an incredible archeological site in a beautiful location. Watch your step as we saw a couple of people slip and trip (they do warn you to take care). Well worth the visit. Fresh orange juice available in the cafe with a wonderful view.

Yes the Greek heat and the climb will tire you out but it is absolutely worth the views and the feel of history. Plus you can always get a beer on the way down there are...

Looming over the town of Lindos, this historic fortified citadel holds several ancient structures, including the Doric Temple of Athena Lindia, The Castle of the Knights of St John, and an amphitheater. The acropolis offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Aegean Sea and the town below. Donkey rides are a traditional mode of transport here and...

Beautiful place with stunning views over Lindos and the sea, definitely worth visiting! However, the €20 entrance fee felt a bit high, especially since there was no guide or detailed information to explain what you see. Even at the end of the season it was very crowded, with a long wait at the ticket office. Keep in mind there’s a steep walk...
