Boating Along the river Ill in Strasbourg

Strasbourg is the capital city of the Grand Est region, formerly Alsace, in northeastern France. It’s also the formal seat of the European Parliament and sits near the German border, with culture and architecture blending German and French influences. Perhaps one of the most iconic aspects of Strasbourg is the Ill River, and one of the most memorable and relaxing ways to tour the beautiful city is by boat.

Various companies offer boating tours along the Ill River, some being as short as 20 minutes, to others lasting the whole day. One may enjoy a meal on board or have an evening of cocktails on the river, though each are truly romantic ways of seeing the iconic city.

An average itinerary could include stops at the European Parliament Strasbourg, Musee d’Art Moderne et Contemporain, La Petite France, The European Court of Human Rights, Parc de l’Orangerie, and of course the Cathedrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg.

While there is much one can see in Strasbourg by foot, the boating experience can truly give one a unique perspective. And when spending our walking through cobbled streets, a break can be the perfect thing to build into your holiday.
