Hotel Puntagrande stands on a lava pier that reaches straight into the Atlantic, a 19th-century stone outpost once used to store goods arriving by sea. Its volcanic walls and reclaimed timbers still carry that maritime character, shaped by decades of storms, sailors’ footsteps and the quiet routines of an island anchored to the ocean. We’ve restored the building with absolute care, keeping its original spirit while introducing the comfort today’s travellers expect.
Over the years, Puntagrande has earned a place in European heritage: recognised by Guinness World Records in 1989 as the world’s smallest hotel and later protected as a Bien de Interés Cultural for its architectural and coastal significance. In 2025, the Michelin Guide awarded us a Llave, acknowledging our commitment to authenticity and sustainable hospitality.
Today we offer four bedrooms and a panoramic suite, each created to frame the raw beauty of El Hierro and the unbroken sound of the ocean. The experience here is intentionally simple: time moves slowly, the landscape leads, and the building’s history is felt in every detail. Puntagrande remains an adults-only retreat for those seeking space, quietness and a profound sense of place.

At Hotel Puntagrande, we keep things intentionally intimate, with just five rooms in total. Four individually designed double rooms and one suite are shaped by local lava stone, reclaimed wood and nautical artefacts, all opening to the Atlantic. There are no televisions or artificial distractions. Instead, we offer absolute privacy, deep calm and uninterrupted sea views, inviting you to slow down and reconnect with nature, silence and time.
Our Cigar Room offers a quiet, wood-lined space shaped for unhurried moments. Gentle lighting, deep armchairs and the ocean breeze create an intimate setting where you can savour a carefully curated selection of premium cigars from Cuba, Nicaragua and beyond. Whether you prefer conversation or calm, this is a place to pause, reflect and enjoy the craft behind each blend. It’s a small but distinctive corner of Hotel Puntagrande designed for true appreciation.
El Hierro feels shaped entirely by nature: a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, powered by wind and water, and home to landscapes that shift across volcanic slopes, ancient forests and eight microclimates. The island’s night sky is extraordinary, clear enough to feel close to the stars themselves. From Puntagrande’s terrace, that sense of vastness is unforgettable. Remote, lightly populated and remarkably preserved, El Hierro remains Europe’s quiet frontier — a place where time slows and the environment leads.
