Located in the vibrant Alfama district, on the site of the former Royal Palace kitchens, Solar Do Castelo offers 20 individually-decorated rooms that blend heritage with modern comforts.
Archways and exposed stone allude to the building’s original function as a castle kitchen, while interior design by Atelier Graҁa Viterbo weaves contemporary notes into a history-soaked backdrop. Our bespoke furniture, rich linen and wooden floors and ceilings make spaces warm and inviting and a firepit illuminates a cobbled inner courtyard by night.
Our friendly team can suggest local experiences and cultural attractions to explore, while our hotel breakfast comprises fresh pastries, regional smoked hams, local cheeses and fresh fruits. For more on the history of our unusual destination, visit the basement museum to view pottery fragments of pottery unearthed during excavations in 2001.
At Solar Do Castelo, our 20 rooms are a mix of twin and double and decorated in rich velvets and tones of red. Wrought iron lamps provide cosy illumination, while fine linens and pale rugs complete the aesthetic.
Breakfast at Solar Do Castelo comprises fresh pastries, custard tarts and cakes for those with a sweet tooth. We also offer regional smoked hams, local cheeses and fresh fruits, alongside fresh orange juice and delicious Portuguese coffee.
Solar Do Castelo is located in the Castelo de S. Jorge district – narrow streets dotted with flower pots and bird cages ensuring car traffic is kept to a minimum. This sustainable focus continues in our hotel where food is sourced locally and 100% renewable electricity is used throughout.
