Our 16th-century inn sits on Bledington’s village green, a spot so quintessentially English it feels like it has stepped out of a painting. Recognised by The Good Pub Guide as Pub of the Year and praised by The Sunday Times as “the classic English country pub one always hopes to find but seldom does,” it’s a place where tradition and warmth go hand in hand.
Inside, thick Cotswold stone walls, oak beams and flagstones carry centuries of history, while an open inglenook fire casts its glow across the bar in the colder months. Step outside and the scene shifts with the seasons: in spring and summer, the brook trickles gently past, ducks and bantams roam freely, and tables spill onto the green.
Owners Archie and Nicola Orr-Ewing have poured care and attention into every detail, ensuring The King’s Head remains a genuine inn — one where locals gather, travellers linger, and everyone feels part of something enduring.

Twelve bedrooms await, each one quietly elegant and full of Cotswold warmth. Some lie in the charming courtyard block behind the pub, slightly larger and with more luxurious decor, while others are in the main inn – snug spaces with character: low ceilings, soft lighting, and comforting touches. All rooms offer ensuite bathrooms, and the kind of peaceful views that make you linger over breakfast. Whether courtyard or above the inn, comfort here feels rooted and personal.
Our menus are shaped by the seasons and by the best of what’s local. Aberdeen Angus beef comes from Bledington fields, smoked delicacies arrive from nearby Upton Smokery, and fresh fish is delivered daily from Cornwall. Lunch or dinner, every plate reflects a respect for provenance and a belief that food tastes better when it’s rooted in its surroundings — honest cooking with a clear sense of place.
Pull on your boots and explore the Cotswolds from our doorstep — this is a walker’s paradise. From The King’s Head Inn you’ll find several gentle, circular country walks that take you through rolling hills, flowering meadows, whispering woods and picture-perfect villages. For more ambitious days out, nearby Blenheim Palace, Daylesford Organic and the festivals of Cheltenham all lie within reach. Whether you want fresh air, quiet lanes or charming market towns, there are plenty of ways to wander, soak up scenery and pause in beauty.
