Discover Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland is a land of contrasts and character. Craggy coastlines give way to green valleys, while cities like Belfast and Derry/Londonderry tell stories that span centuries — from ancient myths to modern politics. It’s a place where history is always close, but so too are wild landscapes, thriving culture, and the kind of welcome that lingers long after you’ve left.

Expect the best of fresh produce and comfort food in Northern Ireland. Cosy pubs, waterside seafood restaurants and bustling markets make for a thriving food scene.

Traditional Northern Irish Food

ULSTER FRY

This iconic Northern Irish breakfast feast features a combination of fried egg, bacon, sausage, black pudding, tomato, mushrooms, potato bread (farl), and soda bread, all fried to perfection and traditionally served as the ultimate hangover cure or weekend indulgence.

FARL

These flatbreads made from potato (potato farls) or flour-based dough (soda farls) are griddle-baked until slightly crisp on the outside and soft within, serving as an essential component of the Ulster Fry and many other Northern Irish meals.

BEEF BURGER

While not uniquely Northern Irish, local beef burgers showcase the region's exceptional grass-fed beef, often served in gastropubs with regional touches like Cashel Blue cheese, bacon, or onion chutney made with local ingredients.

BOXTY

This traditional Irish potato pancake combines grated raw potatoes with mashed potatoes, flour, and buttermilk to create a versatile dish that's crisp on the outside and tender inside, often served at breakfast or as a side dish throughout Northern Ireland.

BANGER, MASH, PEA

This hearty comfort food consists of locally-produced pork sausages ("bangers") served atop creamy mashed potatoes, accompanied by vibrant green peas and rich onion gravy, representing the satisfying pub fare found throughout Northern Ireland.

YELLOWMAN

This distinctive Northern Irish honeycomb toffee has a golden color and crunchy, airy texture, famously associated with the Ould Lammas Fair in Ballycastle where it's traditionally sold alongside dulse seaweed.
