Discover Ireland

Within the rolling green hills and lively cities that make up The Republic of Ireland, are endless ways to engage with a culture that’s been shaped over centuries. World-famous legends, the arts, and a strong food and drink scene converge here in a heady mix that has long drawn adventurous spirits.

Ireland is where snug pubs and shots of Irish whiskey go hand-in-hand with hearty homestyle cooking. From Irish stew to beef and Guinness pie, this country takes the concept of comfort food to a whole new level.

TRADITIONAL IRISH FOOD

IRISH BREAKFAST

All full Irish breakfasts include some or all of the following: Bacon, sausages, baked beans, eggs, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, and perhaps some cooked leftover potatoes made into a hash or a bubble and squeak. There will also be toast, butter, marmalade, and lots of tea to drink.

IRISH STEW

Traditional Irish stew originated in Ireland and was made with lamb (or mutton) and root vegetables. Recipes vary by chef and region, but basic ingredients in an Irish stew include the meat, along with potatoes, onions and parsley. Some versions also use carrots, turnips, or barley.

GUINESS PIE

Beef Pot Pie with Guinness. This beef and Guinness pie is essentially traditional Irish beef stew filled with onions, carrots, celery, garlic, beef broth, and herbs, all topped with some lovely and simple store-bought puff pastry. Simple, delicious, and marvelously hearty.

GUR CAKE

The filling is a dark brown paste, containing a mixture of cake/bread crumbs, dried fruits (sultana raisins etc.), and a sweetener/binder. It has traditionally been a cheap confection, made from bakery leftovers. Its name is thought to be a contraction of "gurrier cake".

BOXTY

Boxty is a traditional Irish potato pancake and comes from the Irish arán bocht tí which translates as “poorhouse bread,” though it may also come from the word bácús, meaning “bakehouse.” It's made with a combination of raw grated potato and cooked mashed potatoes.

ROASTED SALMON

This Irish Roasted Salmon recipe has a fantastic combination of ingredients: honey, lemon juice, lemon zest, fresh thyme and a bit of....yes, Irish whiskey! A long, slow marinade helps the salmon to soak up all the delicious flavors. The marinade comes together quickly and all that's left is a short roast in a hot oven.
