MODERN CZECH CULTURE

The Czech Republic is a dynamic and progressive country that is constantly evolving. New ideas and innovations are welcomed here, and its people are generally known for their fantastic, friendly hospitality. You’ll feel at home in no time.

That said, despite the country’s forward-thinking approach, its sense of history remains alive and well. Its cultural heritage is held in high esteem, with many traditions revolving around music, art, literature, dance, and food still celebrated. Many of the Czech Republic’s buildings have remained completely intact, as well, even throughout World War II: meaning that you can still see a wide range of buildings that go back centuries.

The Many Styles of Architecture

Countless architectural styles abound in the Czech Republic. Baroque, Gothic, Renaissance, Romanesque, Classicism, Art-Nouveau, Cubism, and Functionalism are all on display throughout this eclectic, dazzlingly designed destination.

ART GLASS AND CRYSTAL DESIGN

The Czech Republic has a long history of art glass and crystal production – for clients such as royals and emperors, no less – originating from the 13th century. Some of the world’s most famous Czech brands are Bohemia Crystal and Moser Glass.

EXCITING CITIES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC

Prague

The historic center of Prague has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Some of the most popular things to see and do include visiting Prague Castle, exploring the Old Town Square, and taking a scenic boat ride on the Vltava River. Known as ‘the city of a hundred spires’, towering peaks decorate the cityscape, with more than 500 additional spires having been added to the original tally.

Brno

Brno is a great place to visit, especially for those who enjoy culture, as there are a number of museums dedicated to its rich past. The Moravian Museum, which chronicles the history of the region, is a must-see, while art lovers will appreciate the many galleries and installations on display throughout the city. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, there are also plenty of parks and green spaces to explore.

Ostrava

Though it’s the third largest city in the country, Ostrava is often overlooked by tourists, even though it’s a hotspot for spectacular sights. Founded as a market town in the 13th century, this now-modern metropolis is rich with places to shop and dine, along with being a hub of some of the Czech Republic’s most important cultural institutions like the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre.

Pilsen

The next time you want to treat yourself, book a trip to Pilsen. Incredible sights abound here, such as the Great Synagogue and the city’s cathedral – a Gothic masterpiece from the 14th century. For those interested in art and architecture, the West Bohemian Museum is well worth a visit, as well. Pilsen is also famed for its delicious beer… cheers!

A COUNTRY FOR CASTLE-LOVERS

If the Czech Republic had a specialism, it would be castles. There are more than 2,000 castles and chateaus here, making it the most castle-dense country in Europe! Many of them are open to tourists, too, like Hluboká Castle, Orlík Castle, Lednice Castle and Prague Castle, the largest medieval castle in the world.

REGIONS IN CZECH REPUBLIC

Bohemia

Bohemia has picked up many badges over the years. It’s where the capital city of Prague can be found, along with some of the most beautiful and unique scenery in Europe. From majestic mountains to stunning lakes and rivers, this region has it all. And, of course, let’s not forget about the amazing castles, medieval towns and many museums and galleries to explore… what else could you ask for?

Moravia

Its beautiful landscapes are unparalleled, too – a delightfully green composition of hills and forests, with vineyards wedged in-between. If you’re looking for a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors, you couldn’t find a more perfect destination.

Silesia

Silesia is one of the Czech Republic’s smaller regions, but it still has plenty to offer visitors. Enjoy a quaint day in the Czechian countryside with a trip to Javorník, right on the Czech-Poland border, or dive into the beautiful scenery that pervades this region along with museums and galleries. From ski resorts to spas, you’ll find everything you want.
