Traditional food in Czech Republic

Svíčkov

Svíčková is a traditional dish belonging to Czech cuisine. It typically includes roast beef served with cream sauce, knedlík, a small portion of blueberry jam, sour cream and a slice of lemon.

Vepřo knedlo zelo

The most traditional Czech dish you can have at a restaurant is vep o knedlo zelo, which is roasted pork with dumplings and a garnish of pickled cabbage.

Guláš

A pork stew (although beef or game is sometimes used) with lots of onions, guláš is usually served with bread dumplings or slices of dark bread. A common meal during winter, it’s also one of the simplest and cheapest Czech dishes you can try at a traditional restaurant.

Česnečka

A garlic-heavy soup with croutons, česnečka also contains a raw egg, which is added near the end of the cooking process and left alone to cook in the heat of the soup. Small pieces of sausage, pork or cheese is sometimes added to it as well.

Ovocné Knedlíky

Fruit dumplings are a traditional Czech dish that is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. These delicate little dumplings are made with fresh fruit, and they are absolutely delicious. If you have never had a fruit dumpling, you are in for a treat.

Kolač

Kolace is a traditional Czech dessert that has been around for centuries. It is made with a variety of different fillings and toppings, and is usually served with coffee or tea. Kolace is a popular choice for celebrations and holidays, and is a great way to show off your Czech heritage.
